The Concept of Al-Hubb Fillah
"Loving each other for the sake of Allah" (Al-Hubb Fillah - الحب في الله) is one of the most profound spiritual concepts in Islam. It applies to any two Muslims—friends, neighbors, colleagues, or siblings. While it often refers to friends, a husband and wife can also attain this status if their love is built on encouraging each other toward faith and good deeds.
Evidence from Hadith
The Shade of the Throne: Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) mentioned seven groups of people who will be shaded by Allah on the Day of Judgment. One of these groups is: "Two persons who love each other for the sake of Allah, getting together and departing on this basis." (Sahih Bukhari & Muslim)
Hadith Qudsi: Allah says, "My love is obligatory for those who love each other for My sake." (Muwatta Imam Malik)
Quranic Perspective
Although the exact phrase is from Hadith, the Quran emphasizes this bond. For instance, in Surah Al-Hujurat (Verse 10), Allah says: "The believers are but brothers, so make settlement between your brothers."
